Visit Lefkada

Lefkada is one of the most beautiful of the Greek Islands, and is also closer to the mainland than most of the islands. This proximity of Lefkada to the mainland has enabled them to be connected through a floating bridge.

Lefkada is popular among tourists for many of the same reasons why other Greek islands attract them. The pleasant weather of the region in the summers is the perfect time for many tourists to head to the Greek beaches, and Lefkada offers some of the best of those. The Lefkada marina has been awarded the Blue flag.

The most popular of the Lefkada beaches is Pefkoulia, located near Agios Nikitas and not far from the capital, and Vassiliki. Vassiliki offers the best water sports facilities on the island and is known to be as an excellent windsurfing spot. Beaches found near the capital city of Lefkada include Agios Ionnais, a beach similar to those in the Caribbean in appearance and is suitable for windsurfing as well and Nikiana.

The town of Nidri is one of the most popular beaches as well and also offers an archaeological site. Other important beaches include Kathisma, Agios Nikitas, Makros Gialos and the famous Porto Katsiki, which is a hilly beach known for its scenic beauty.

Diving and water sports are very popular activities on the beaches, and the pristine waters of the Ionian Sea enable tourists to fully enjoy themselves on these beautiful beaches.

Among the attractions offered by the town of Lefkada, the archaeological museum of the island is an important one, which features artifacts from the Bronze Age and the Ancient Greek period.

For those who are interested in the culture of the island and the region in general should visit the Folklore Museum of Lefkada located near the Church of Agios Spyridon and the Museum of Gramophone.
