Ios is one of the smallest but one of the most scenic of the Cyclades Islands.It is a popular destination among tourists, especially the young, as the island offers some very exciting nightlife attractions. Most of the people who visit the island often include a trip to the nearby Santorini islands in their itinerary, or the other way around. You can comfortably reach Ios from Naxos, Santorini and Crete.

As is the case with the rest of the Cyclades islands, Ios is also known for its remarkably beautiful beaches, which are not only the best in the Cyclades, but are considered to be among the best in the entire continent. You will often find beaches from Cyclades in articles and surveys about the best beaches in Europe.

Although Ios just covers an area of 42 square miles the island has a lot to offer to its visitors. It features no less than 3 blue flag beaches, which are Ormos, Mylopotas and Koumpara. Mylopotas is the nearest beach to the Ios town.

Other important beaches on the island include Kalamos, Manganari, Plakes, Psathi and Yialos. Psathi and Papa are very calm and quiet beaches, with Papa being the most isolated one, only accessible by boat.

A trip to the nearby hilly village capital of Chora from the Ios town is a popular attraction among tourists. The unique architecture and landscape of the area also interests most visitors to this island.

Although it is a small place, Chora features a few bars and nightclubs, which offer attractive nightlife attractions on the island.

A few of the historical attractions of the island include Odysseas Elytis open air theater, and the Skarkos Hill prehistoric site and an archaeological museum.

The beautiful island of Ios has been the shooting location of a couple of famous Hollywood movies as well, such as the Big Blue.
